10 Stress Solutions

1.    Laugh. Laughter decreases the physical effects of stress by reducing the level of stress hormones like cortisol and epinephrine (adrenaline) in your body. It also increases the number of antibody-producing cells and enhances the effectiveness of T cells. By taking your focus away from negative emotions you may be experiencing, laughter usually completely changes your outlook on life after a good dose of it. Find a way to laugh about the circumstances and situations in your life. If you feel this is impossible, find something, someone, a comedic movie, TV comedy, or a comedian who makes you laugh and incorporate more of it into your life.

2.    Count your blessings. Being grateful causes you to change your perspective on life. Focusing on what you do have, helps to take the focus off of what you feel you don’t have. It can also put you in a more positive frame of mind which will allow you to be more open to solutions, paths, or courses of action that will help you to obtain whatever it is you feel you lack.

3.    Incorporate healthier foods into your diet. Find ways to include nutritious foods that help to relax your blood vessels and improve blood flow. For example, whole grain foods, garlic, bananas, fatty fish with omega-3 fatty acids, berries, and red-orange vegetables such as carrots, pumpkin, or sweet potatoes. Improving your blood flow or circulation will help your body be able to better manage the effects of stress.

4.    Exercise. Exercise helps you to release and better manage negative emotions, it decreases hormones like cortisol released in your body as a result of stress, and it increases feel-good chemicals or endorphins, to boost or improve your mood. It also, usually gives you a short break from the sources of stress in your life while you are engaging in it. In some cases, it provides you with positive social interaction with others that may enhance your outlook on life as well.

5.    Meditate and pray. Taking time out of your busy schedule daily to meditate and pray will make you much more capable of wisely, calmly handling everything within your schedule. Meditation and deep breathing will help to slow your heart & breathing rate, reduce muscle tension and chronic pain, improve your ability to concentrate, and reduce feelings of anger and frustration. If you will dedicate a few moments each day, these relaxation techniques and way of life will help you to stop feeling as if life is spiraling out of control, remind you that there is a purpose for everything, and help you open your mind to wisdom that will aid you in taking charge of your life. Time in prayer will help you to hear and see the solutions you need to improve your state of existence and enhance your life. 6.    Clean, de-clutter and organize your environment to improve your life and increase the positive energy around you. Working in a clean, orderly environment will help you to think more clearly and be creative in a way that will totally transform your life. Look for and keep only what you need, and get rid of or donate what you don’t need to clean and de-clutter your surroundings. As the saying goes, cleanliness is next to Godliness. It can’t help but aid you in better managing stress and your life.

7.    Increase the beauty or attractiveness of your environment. Use colors that you love and are attracted to. Search for ways to enhance your physical surroundings in a way that expresses who you are, what you like, and what you enjoy. It will give you more vigor and motivation to get out of bed each day to continue pressing toward your goals and dreams. Anything that makes you feel good (and is not destructive to your physical body) will help you to decrease and manage stress in your life. Knowing you have an exquisite, safe haven or shelter from the rest of the world to which you can return will help you have a more positive outlook on life. One day at a time, transform your environment into something positive and beautiful that you can enjoy.

8.    Act. Many situations are stressful because whatever is happening feels as if it is beyond our control. List the issues that are stressing you out, pray about them, and then come up with a plan or list of solutions or routes you can take to solve them. You may not be able to solve everything in one day, but you can take steps toward resolving each of the stressful issues in your life each day. Eventually, the issue will be something in your past that you pressed through or overcame. You will then have a solution that you can share with others who are facing the same problem. Use the stressful, painful situations in your past to bless the lives of others around the world. It will help you see that there is a clear reason why each circumstance enters your life, and you will be able to calm down as you face each situation moving forward.

9.    Consider what may be occurring in the lives of others. You may view this solution as something that would stress you out further, but what it does is allow you to remain loving, peaceful, and calm in interacting and dealing with others who have “difficult” or “challenging” personalities. We know that hurting people hurt other people, and that misery loves company. So the next time that you feel someone getting under your skin and irritating you to no end, pause and consider that something in this person’s life is completely out of control and it more than likely has absolutely nothing to do with you. Don’t take it personally. Let kind, soft words flow from you to turn away their wrath, and exercise wisdom knowing that you can catch more bees with honey than vinegar. Being loving, kind, and possessing a sweet-temperament will not only increase the chances that you’ll get what you want or your desired outcome (sooner than being sour-tempered). It will also help to calm stressful interactions and situations with others down much quicker than responding with anger, anxiety and vengeance. Most people just need to know someone is listening and that their words and existence matter in the world.

10.    Consider changing occupations. If your current job or occupation causes you to dread getting up each day, you may want to think about changing this aspect of your existence. While it may not be possible for everyone to do immediately, it is a solution to consider and possibly start working toward. That does not mean quit your job today. It means that if you are under a considerable amount of negative stress working in your current position, it may be time to start working toward positioning yourself for promotion or a move into a completely different occupation. One foot in front of the other, one day at a time, increasing in knowledge and learning something new each day, you can completely transform your life!
